Survey respondents are 417 U.S. employers representing 7,041,676 members. The sample was developed from PBMI’s proprietary database of employers and subscribers to Employee Benefits News magazine who are managers, directors or vice presidents of benefits. This is the first year PBMI has supplemented its database to increase the number of employers included in the data set and create a sample frame more representative of the marketplace. The respondents from the Employee Benefits News list represent more employers with one to 2,000 members than in previous years. When using trend tables, please note that these new data more accurately reflect the distribution of U.S. employers by size according to U.S. Census Bureau data of employers based on number of employees1.
